What Is Required of Us?

Therefore “Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord.  Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you….”  ~ 2 Corinthians 6:17

Therefore…let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. ~ 2 Corinthians 7:1

There are many clear instructions for us to be holy, having nothing to do with sin or its filthiness.  It’s clear, is it not?  Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.  Okay, what is the opposite of receive?  Rejection?  Just a thought….

Back on track here.  Not touching what is unclean, and cleansing ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

It doesn’t say, “Do the best you can” or “Wash up some” or “God knows you will remain dirty”, does it?

The perfect analogy for this is hand washing.  People who are told to wash their hands frequently, may or may not see the need for this task.  But take a medical professional who has been instructed to look under a microscrope at their hands before and after washing, and they will always wash their hands.  Why?  Because they see the filth that we don’t.  They go to great lengths to remove that filth at all costs – because they have studied what damage that filth can do!!!

Spiritual washing is the same way.  When we can have a spiritual eternal perspective of sin, its filthiness, and the damage that it does, not only to our souls, but to the souls of those around us, we should have the same repulsion towards it.  We should go to great lengths to remove it at all costs.

It’s time for us to see sin for what it is.  The filth, the contamination, the destruction that comes from its presence in our lives should disgust us.  It should sicken us when we find it in our presence – to the extent that we remove it – knowing what it is capable of.

So, what is God pointing out to you that needs to be removed from you life?

Simply remove it, and be done with it.  Don’t excuse it, justify it, try to make up for it, or flat out continue rebelling by holding on to it.  Remove it, and see how freeing that act is!
