A New Creation

Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh.  Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold have become new.
Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
~2 Corinthians 5:16-18 (NKJV)

A lot of times, in speaking with women about their spiritual growth, I get this, “But, you don’t understand my past – you don’t know who I was.”

They are completely right in that I don’t know who you were.  What I do know IS who they ARE!

Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:16-18, “Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh, yet now we know him thus no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.  Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.”

Several thoughts here on this one passage:
1 – You are not who you were.
You were a person ruled by emotions. You ARE a person ruled by the Holy Spirit.
You were a person that closely guarded your heart because of past hurts.  You ARE a person who can love and forgive freely, just as God has loved and forgiven you.
You were a person that loved as the world did, conditionally.  You ARE a woman of Christ re-created in Him to love as He loves us – unconditionally.

2 – You ARE a new creation.
This doesn’t mean just some other random new creation that has to start from scratch to learn to live all over again.  It means that you are a creature, as Adam and Eve were in the garden before sin.  You are fully equipped to live through the Holy Spirit.
It just requires fully relying on Him.  It will take a while to get used to this “new form”.  We don’t have a magic wand to make this new life easier.  We just need to do it.  The more you do it, the more natural it becomes.
It takes tough choices that totally go against what the “old you” want.  But look at each choice this way.
Take a deep breath – decide if you want to use the energy from that breath to PLEASE God or to GRIEVE HIS HEART.  Those are the only 2 choices – ever.

3 – The reason why ALL of this is so important is because you have been given (as we all have) the ministry of reconciliation.  Simply put, it’s your ministry to bring people to God, so that they can experience this same “newness of life” that you have.
This starts with the obvious – our children.
From there – it goes to anyone and everyone else that God brings into our lives.
We can’t tell them about “newness of life” when they see us living our lives based on what we knew before.  If they don’t see change – they won’t want it.
