Are You Ready for Today?

“Preach the Word!  Be ready in season and out of season.  Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.”

2 Timothy 4:2 (NKJV)

I talk with a lot of people who have noticed that opportunities to –

  • share Christ
  • encourage a fellow Christian
  • help someone with a problem
  • pray for and with someone
  • etc.

have literally slipped through their hands, because they weren’t prepared for the encounter.

So, how can we make sure that we are ready “in season and out of season”.

I feel like the best way is to make sure that you know God’s Word and God’s ways.  The only way to do that is to read it.  If you were hired by a company to represent them, you would be required to study their “handbook” so that you know what their policies were, what their practices were, and where they stood on certain issues.

Why do we feel that “accepting Christ” is the end of our salvation experience.  It’s the start, but in order to grow in Christ, we have to know His policies, His practices, where He stands on the issues.  We should invest more time into studying this Handbook – after all – eternity lies in the balance – not only ours, but others that we come into contact with throughout our lives!

I have found that when I start the day with the Lord, whole-heartedly seeking Him, and what He has for me that day, that it always prepares me for the opportunities that await me throughout that day, and the following days. He knows everything!

I’ve known people who have said that they can’t get up a half hour early, just to spend time with God, because they need that sleep.  Then, within weeks, they are “getting up a half hour early” to exercise, go for a run, read that book that they can’t put down, etc., etc., etc…..

When something is important to you, you make time for it.  That’s the bottom line.

What is more important than being ready for eternity, and making sure that others are ready for eternity as well.

With intentional, deliberate (my two favorite words!) effort, we can be ready for the opportunities that God has in store for us today, and every day.
