What Cost Sin?

For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

1 Corinthians 6:20

You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men.

1 Corinthians 7:23

It almost seems to me that we think – for some strange reason – that we know that there is a cost for sin, but we think that we can “handle” it.

When we see the truth of the matter – it paints a totally different picture.

As Christians, our sin has cost God everything.  Everything!  It’s easy to overlook the value of something that someone else has paid for, but, brothers and sisters, we can’t do this any longer!

When we fail to live in the power of the Spirit of God, despising sin as He does, we grieve the Holy Spirit that is living in us.

In all their affliction He was afflicted,

And the Angel of His Presence saved them;

In His love and in His pity He redeemed them;

And He bore them and carried them

All the days of old.

But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit;

So He turned Himself against them as an enemy,

And He fought against them.

Isaiah 63:9-10

We are human, and we will sin, but when we use this as a “cop out” we are not living in the power of the Spirit that lives in us.

We need to start living in the Presence of the Spirit, and claiming victory over the sins that bind us.

For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments.  And His commandments are not burdensome.  For whatever is born of God overcomes the world.  And this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith.  Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

1 John 5:3-5
